The public organization “World of Law” and the Dutch foundation “Perspectivity Challenge” announce the launch of an information campaign dedicated to 26 June – the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. The campaign is implemented within the framework of the project “Path to Justice: Strengthening Human Rights through the Prevention of Torture and Penitentiary Reform,” funded by the European Union.

In 1997, upon the recommendation of the Economic and Social Council (decision 1997/251), the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 26 June as the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture (resolution 52/149 of 12 December). This day is observed with the aim of eradicating torture and ensuring the effective implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment of 1984, which entered into force on 26 June 1987.

This Day serves as a call to action for all stakeholders, including UN Member States, civil society organizations, and individuals. It is essential to join efforts to support hundreds of thousands of people around the world who have been victims of torture, as well as those who continue to suffer from torture today.
