7–11 July, Dushanbe; 21–25 July, Khujand – Two summer schools for young lawyers on human rights were held in Dushanbe and Khujand. These summer schools had more than 50 lawyers and young professionals, as well as law students from universities across Tajikistan.
Within the framework of the programme, participants gained practical knowledge and experience on the following topics: international human rights standards, the role of lawyers in protecting and promoting fundamental rights, gender equality and gender-based violence, human rights and digitalization, and child rights protection. The programme also included interactive sessions, debates, games, and quizzes, which helped participants better understand and absorb the material.
The active involvement of young people in the promotion and protection of human rights plays a crucial role in building a just and inclusive society. Young lawyers, with their fresh perspectives, high motivation, and readiness for innovation, are becoming important drivers of change. Their engagement in human rights processes contributes not only to the spread of legal literacy but also to strengthening public trust in justice institutions.
“The Summer School is not only an opportunity to gain new knowledge and experience from international and national human rights defenders and experts, but also an opportunity to build professional networks. Such schools and trainings for young people inspire them and can become the beginning of a youth movement for the protection of human rights,” said Gulchehra Kholmatova, Director of the Public Organization “World of Law,” in her opening remarks.
Supporting and developing youth potential is an investment in a sustainable future where human rights are respected, protected, and effectively implemented in practice.
The events were held within the framework of the project “Path to Justice: Strengthening Human Rights through Torture Prevention and Penitentiary System Reform”, funded by the European Union.
