Dushanbe, 16-18 September 2025 – A three-day training for human rights defenders dedicated to psychological safety was held in the capital. The training brought together around 25 human rights defenders and civil society representatives.

The main objective of the training was to develop psychological resilience skills, prevent professional burnout, and enhance the personal safety of human rights defenders working in stressful environments.

In their daily work, human rights defenders face a wide range of challenges. Such trainings contribute not only to the well-being of the defenders themselves but also to the beneficiaries, as psychological well-being increases work effectiveness. It is important to support not only victims of human rights violations but also civil society actors who work directly with beneficiaries.

“Human rights work requires not only knowledge and courage, but also the ability to maintain inner resilience. We aim for each participant of such trainings to leave with practical tools to protect their psychological health and continue defending human rights more effectively and safely,” said Gulchehra Kholmatova, Director of the Public Organization “World of Law.”

Within the framework of the programme, participants: became familiar with the Front Line Defenders risk assessment methodology as well as practiced incident response mechanisms.

Special attention was given to discussing key challenges faced by human rights defenders in their daily work. Through joint exercises, participants developed individual and collective strategies for coping with stressful situations.

The event was organized by the Public Organization “World of Law” within the framework of the project “Path to Justice: Strengthening Human Rights through Torture Prevention and Penitentiary System Reform”, funded by the European Union.
